American Toy Terrier
Playful and Energetic


The American Toy Terrier is a great choice of small dog breeds for those who enjoy the outdoors and have the ability to spend time walking or are interested in agility training their little pet.

This Peter Pan of the dog world never grows out of puppyhood, and requires extensive daily exercise to prevent an unhappy and neurotic dog.

 
History

The Toy Fox Terrier has been bred from the Smooth Fox Terrier and other toy breeds which includes the Italian Greyhound as well as the Chihuahua and Manchester Terrier.  Producing the "American Toy Terrier" AKA AmerToy.

Personality This pint sized Amertoy is devoted companion known for his comic behavior and intelligence.  He does not "grow-up" resulting in a tireless and highly animated playmate.
Appearance His eyes dark, eye rims.   Preferred coat is tricolor, white, black and tan. with the head being at least 50% dark and the body no more than 50% white.  Short dense coat. 
Grooming The short, shiny coat needs very little grooming, an occasional brush keeps the miniature fox terrier looking naturally well groomed.
Health

The Toy Fox Terrier is a breed free from many health problems concerning small dog breeds.  Provided this tot is exercised regularly to prevent a destructive and depressed dog, no serious health ailments are recorded with this breed.

Family Very good companion dog, can be suitable for families with children provided the children respect his fragile frame.  He has a happy very playful disposition and bonds with the entire family and other pets.
Training This athletic breed of dog are highly trainable and are dependable in agility.  They are quick to learn and excel with tender training.
Ideal Home Not suitable for apartment living unless he enjoys long daily walks.  This lively breeds MUST get out daily.  His short coat will not protect him from the cold and cannot be kenneled outdoors.
Lifespan 13 - 14 years as with many small dog breeds, if well integrated with a family can live longer.
Purpose Toy and a Terrier, as a companion and hunter of squirrels and rodents.
Watch dog Good alert dog.  These types of dogs are not aggressive.
