Bedlington Terrier - Breed Information

A Sheep in Lamb's Clothing

If you are reading this Bedlington Terrier Breed Information you may be considering this most distinctive of all small dog breeds.  Less than 400 of these rare dog breeds are registered each year.

These small dog breeds are suited for apartment living as they are docile, loving and playful, provided they get their dose of outdoor exercise. They should not be left alone for long periods of time if in an apartment as they can be yappers.

The Bedlington Terrier Breed Information will advise you not to consider this breed if you have very young children and already have other older animals.  These types of dogs, can be socialised to accept other
pets but preferably from
an early age.
Older children are more suited
to this darling dog who has
a slightly fragile frame.
Outdoors they change from couch
potato
into an energetic handful.

These types of dogs are not for the feint hearted.

As with most Terriers, this little beauty cannot be left alone for long periods of time.  They can be destructive and will enjoy re-landscaping your garden should they not be supervised and walked daily.

Bedlington Terriers are known for their aggression towards other dogs and for high speed running so you should never let them off the lead until you can be sure you can call your (very expensive and beloved) pet back to you!

The most important aspect for the growing popularity of these rare dog breeds is their Hypo Allergenic coats.  They are very low shedding and are highly suitable for many people with allergies.

These small dog breeds certainly make a statement with their unusual Lamblike appearance and you will find a loyal and devoted pet in this little angel, provided you have time for weekly grooming and daily walking.  Grooming this little lamb will require some skill, unless you can afford regular professional grooming.  Maintaining the Classical Lamb appearance is only for a very skilled groomers.

These types of dogs have a long life and can easily exceed 15 years. There are two main health issues which can be serious.  Retinal (eye) Disease and Copper Storage Disease (liver).  Bearing this in mind it is as always highly recommended that you get Pet Health Insurance to cover unexpected veterinarian bills.

Training these types of dogs needs to be persistent and on-going.  They need a clear message of who is boss and constant reminders of this throughout puppyhood.  A firm hand is absolutely essential to ensure that this little lamb does not turn into a monster.  If he senses weakness in the owner your Terrier will take advantage and become extremely stubborn.
