Dog Grooming
Not just a Lick and a Promise
What does dog grooming mean? Is it a weekly bath or a daily brush? Yes... it is that and much much more. Many small dog breeds are very low maintenance and
a weekly wipe is sufficient, however, some of these cute dogs, such as a Yorkshire Terrier needs daily grooming and professional grooming service a few times a
year.
That aside, lets look at the aspects to dog grooming.
Bathing and combing is dependent on the coat
the thickness, length and obviously the activity of the dog. A lap dog is going to need less bathing than a dog who runs and chases squirrels in the park.
We cover the grooming needs for the most small dogs.
Keeping your dogs nails clipped is very
important and should be done every 2 weeks from puppyhood so that the dog gets
used to it. It is important that you don't cut their nails too short as they
have a quick (a blood vessel) in the nail. When cut it causes pain and
bleeding. You may ask a dog grooming service to show you how to the first
time round.
Dog ear care on a regular basis is
essential. Debris and wax builds up and needs to be cleaned out. However,
don't use cotton swaps rather use wet wipes with your fingers which are too
large to damage the delicate eardrum.
Cleaning
dogs teeth as often as you can. Daily
would be ideal. Only use special canine toothpaste (which can be swallowed
without causing harm). Small dog breeds in particular are prone to gum disease
and halitosis. In addition to regular bushing give your best friend treats that
are designed to remove tartar build-up and ensures health teeth and gums.
Keeping their bedding clean and to pick up their "poop"
so that your cute dogs have a clean and healthy environment in which to play and
sleep. Your little angel, cannot clean up so it is up to you to wash his
bedding regularly and to pick up his droppings.
Feeding the proper food and quantity is vital
for to prevent some dog health problems, such as kidney disease or arthritis. Check
out our dog food;calorie
chart.
We also cover the big debate, dry kibble, home made food or raw. Overfeeding is
one of the commonest mistakes many (loving) dog owners make. One of the
most important aspects to your dogs' well being is being kept at the correct
weight. As with everything your dog is totally
dependent on you to care for it. And overfeeding it is just not
good practise.
All well dressed individuals needs clothing, and no less for your dog.
Dog
collars and leashes of which there are many to choose from. Whichever
one you decide on it is absolutely necessary as it gives you a quick way to stop your dog
in an emergency. Your dog's collar and also carries the tag which identifies your little angel in
the event it goes wondering in the neighborhood.
Some small dog breeds
cannot tolerate cold weather and they need jackets
for early morning and evening, this is your chance to make a fashion statement
or simply something practical to keep your cute dogs warm.
