Miniature Pinschers, despite standing just one foot tall, are one of the most fearless of all toy dog breeds. They stand their ground and will not be intimidated. These rare dog breeds are growing in popularity as they are spirited, animated, assertive and bold.

The Min Pin as they are commonly known have a distinctive and elegant gait, high stepping and totally unique of all the toy dog breeds. It is difficult to determine exactly when this little dynamo was recognized, it is generally believed that the breed was first documented in 1890 and imported to America in 1919 with the first club being formed in 1925. As with all small dog breeds, we strongly recommend that you consider pet insurance, whilst this is generally a healthy breed, there are some conditions that may need veterinary services, such as orthopedic problems, thyroid and eye conditions, epilepsy and heart defects.
These pets may not be manhandled by young children as with any small fragile boned pet. All children should be taught early on to respect the animal. Miniature Pinschers can be snappy and jealously guard their food and toys. They are therefore not suitable for undisciplined children, however, they do make excellent family pets and are suitable for apartment living with daily exercise. Due to their energetic personality, they are not couch potatoes and are lively and entertaining.
They can be challenging to train, even though they are highly intelligent, are stubborn and need firm handling and a strong pack leader in the form of the owner. As with all dogs particularly small dogs, it is essential that he is not overly spoilt as they can become temperamental and highly strung.
A magnificent, shiny coat is maintained with a minimum of fuss making this a low maintenance pet. However, their close coats do not offer sufficient protection from the cold.
