Pomeranian The Perfect Pooch
The popular Pomeranian could certainly be considered one of the most highly intelligent of all small dog breeds. They are well known for their closeness to their owners and are ideal for the elderly especially those who are hard of hearing, so much so that they have been trained to be companions to deaf people.
A teacup version of the Pom breed does not exist although this is a very common misconception with these little fluff balls. These small dog breeds are very petite (under their full fluffy coat) but are feisty in nature when alerting their owners to visitors arriving or the phone ringing. Whilst a constantly yapping dog is not ideal, but as they are highly intelligent and can be trained to limit their barking to only when necessary.

Grooming this lap dog can be time consuming but is essential as their beautiful thick coats can become matted.
Regular brushing and an occasional bath is required to keep them looking good. It is important to start grooming your dog from a puppy, to ensure that they get used to the combing. Unless your little companion is very dirty, do not fully bath them as you will destroy the natural oils which helps to keep their thick coats healthy. A partial bath is perfect once a week.
They are creatures of habit, and they are extremely happy to have a very regular routine. These little angels are brilliant companions and will keep you entertained simply by their intelligence. They must not be spoilt with human food, they are prone to early tooth loss and must be given good quality dry dog food and regular treats designed to keep the teeth and gums healthy.
Other health problems are mainly skin conditions and heart disease. As with all other small dog breeds we recommend that you consider Pet Insurance to cover unexpected Veterinary bills, particularly if you plan to breed as caesarian section is usually required for the smaller dogs; They have a long life expectancy and can easily reach 15 years or more.
Your little Pom Pom..a Lifelong Love.
