Related to the Bichon family of dogs, brought to Madagascar by the French as a ratter. Bred with the Maltese to create the new breed named after Madagascar's Bay of Tulear. These small dog breeds are popular, hypo allergenic breeds as their coat is more hair than fur.
The Coton de Tulear is highly affectionate and don't like to be left alone for long periods. It is essential, with this small white dog, to lead with pack behavior, where you are the leader. You need to establish leadership to avoid dog separation anxiety common in neurotic dogs which don't know their place in the pack. A firm hand will ensure a happy and content pet, free from neurosis.
