Dog Eye Care I Spy with my Little Eye
Dog eye care keeps your dog looking good but can also prevent many common eye problems associated with some breeds. Dog eye stains which many types of small dog breeds such as the French Toy Poodle, Spaniels and Small Terrier Breeds are prone to, does not look very pretty.
More importantly it is also a breeding hot bed for bacteria which can cause dog eye infections which are painful for your little pet and can be costly to treat and worse some, if left untreated, some can cause blindness in dogs and even the loss of the dogs' eye in very severe cases.

Dog eye care for Brachycephalic dog breeds should be a daily routine as these little angels have protruding eyes making these types of dogs susceptible to eye infections, eye lacerations and prolapse eye.
When grooming your dog, the eye area needs to have attention to the following: -
Check the eyes for any discharge, swelling or inflamation. -
To stop the hair from touching the eye ball and possibly infecting the eye with bacteria, keep all hair around the eye area, well trimmed, using a blunt (ended) pair of scissors. -
Apply an eye cream to the eye area, prior to bathing. (obtainable from your vet) -
Use a sterile eye wash (obtainable from your vet) to clean away "sleep" and tear stains (Epiphora). Alternatively use a mild solution of medicinal hydrogen peroxide mixed with warm water.

Other important measures to ensure your little dog is protected from getting in fights with other dogs (or cat). Many of the dog breeds which have a shallow eye socket in a pushed up face, (Brachycepahlic Dogs) pre-dispose these types of dogs to their Cornea been exposed, consequently these little cutie pies do not has as much protection as other dog breeds, and need extra tender loving care.
The Third Eyelid
Dogs have an opaque third eyelid that is not usually seen, but if for some reason it is visible, do not try to remove it as it is there for protecting the dogs delicate eyes.
