Dogs Chocolate
Grows on Trees!

Dogs Chocolate replacement in the form of Carob is a safe and very healthy alternative to "normal" chocolate.

Carob pods are harvested in the Mediterranean and Middle East area. The commercial variation of Carob is usually in powder form, which is an inexpensive, healthy substitute for chocolate not just as dog treats but also as a healthy food supplement for humans, particularly diabetics.

The health benefits have been long recorded, going back to biblical times. Commonly used to treat diarrhoea in livestock and also been clinically proven to control diarrhoea in infants.

Carob, has 60 percent fewer calories than chocolate and contains only minute traces of Theobromine, the potentially deadly ingredient in chocolate.

The chocolate "cheat" allows better absorption of calcium and is so different chemically and nutritionally to chocolate, that is can be used as an alternative for those unfortunate people allergic to chocolate.

Carob is cunningly deceiving as a snack alternative for your little tot. It smells a lot like chocolate, it looks like chocolate but it does not fatten like chocolate. We call it "play play" chocolate.

Small dog breeds, particularly will benefit from the lower calorie count contained in Carob powder, as their little waist lines are quick to thicken.  Notwithstanding that "real" chocolate can kill your little angel dog. We strongly suggest that you NEVER give your dog treats in the form of chocolate.

      Cheat Chocolate Cookies

  • 2 cups oats

  • 4 cups whole-wheat flour

  • Half a cup peanut butter

  • Half a cup carob powder or 3 oz carob chips

  • 1- 2 cups warm water

  • Quarter cup cooking oil (or fish oil)

  • Quarter cup Honey, Syrup or Molasses

Mix together the first 4 (dry) ingredients.
Add all the liquid ingredients.
It should be stiff but moist.
Roll out to about half an inch thick (1 cm)
Use a cookie cutter to cut out small circles.
Drop onto cooking sheet leaving space for the cookie mixture to spread.
Bake at 300 degrees (160 C) for 30 minutes.
Leave to cool before storing in air-tight container for up to 2 months.

These little cookies can be used, sparingly, whilst training your little pooch.

All dog treats, especially these dogs chocolate snacks should be limited as weight gain is one of the major causes of dog health problems such as hip dysplasia, diabetes and heart disease.
