Pomeranian Dogs  - Fast Facts

Pomeranian Dogs are one of the small dog breeds ideal for the elderly or single people. This energetic bundle of love originally comes from the Spitz family of small dog breeds.

The Pomeranian falls within the Toy Dog range of dogs but the name does not include the term "Toy" which is a myth.  So too the "Teacup Pomeranian", this may refer to their size, but no such thing exists other than possibly the smallest of the litter.

They do not need a lot of exercise, but a small garden is a bonus.  These small dog breeds, are not suitable for children as they are delicate but are ideal for the single person or elderly couple who want to do nothing more than to baby their little bundle of fluff.  Grooming your dog is essential as their wonderful thick coats can become matted.




History Originally bred in the Arctic Circle, he arrived in England via Pomerania, Germany in 1860.  The modern  These small dog breeds are much smaller today than then.
Personality Pomeranian dogs are highly intelligent, lively dogs designed for a pampered life and perfect as a lap dog.  They can be jealous of other pets.
Appearance Very abundant coat of many colors.  Orange, red, cream, shaded stables, black white, chocolate, brown and black and brown.  Parti-color is allowed.
Grooming Grooming your dog on a daily basis is essential to keep it from matting.  These small dog breeds get a new coats each year and un-spayed females shed twice a year needing additional combing. 
Health These small dog breeds are virtually free of genetic health issues.  The most common problem being patella luxation, (knee problems). 
Family These tiny tots are not suitable for children, they love to be pampered and make an ideal pet for those needing to give a lot of grooming and love, with very little need for exercise.
Training This little love ball is easy to train as it is highly intelligent, but need to be trained early to stop from yapping.
Ideal Home A small apartment is more than adequate with a small garden being a bonus.  These small dog breeds are ideal for an elderly couple or single person who wants to give and receive lots of unconditional love.
Lifespan Pomeranian dogs easily reach 15 years as long as they don't get fed from the table.  Good quality dog food is recommended as they are easily spoilt.
Purpose Originally bred for drawing sledges, but the modern smaller versions are entirely meant as lap dogs and entertaining companion dogs.
Watch dog Pomeranian dogs are highly alert and are aggressive with other dogs.
