Toy Poodles - French Label
Toy Poodles once the most popular breed in the
world, has had its difficulties. Unscrupulous and indiscriminate breeding
has been the demise of this fantastically beautiful and intelligent creature.
Their uniquely cut coat originated from the need to stop the poodle from
drowning whilst retrieving in water, his first purpose as well as truffle
finding.
Excess hair was removed from the legs, hindquarters, face and tail, leaving a
mass of protective coat on the chest, lungs, kidneys and joints against the cold
water.
| History |
Germany and
Russia are part of the Poodle's history. Possibly
even at some stage crossed with the Portugese Water Dog.
However, the French aristocracy under Louis XIV, became a popular
lap dog under Louis XV and was miniaturized by Louis XVI. Now
commonly accepted as a pure French breed. |
